Online Training

Deaf Interpreters

This training program will have a series of courses offered that Deaf Interpreters need to complete in order to take the Knowledge Exam and Performance Exam at RID and become certified.  Program participants will meet LIVE online two Sundays a month for 2.5 hours each and 3 hours of online work a month, all for a duration of 5 months.  The following topics will be covered:

  1. Introduction to Interpreting (8 hours)
  2. RID-NAD’s Code of Professional Conduct (8 hours)
  3. Process of Interpreting (8 hours)
  4. ASL Linguistics (8 hours)
  5. Interpreting Practicum (8 hours)

Total: 40 hours

Hearing Interpreters

This training program will have a series of courses offered for Hearing Interpreters in order to prepare for the RID National Interpreter Certificate (NIC) Knowledge Exam and Performance Exam to become certified.  Program participants will meet LIVE online two Monday evenings a month for 2.5 hours each and ~6 hours of online work a month, all for a duration of 5 months.  Instructor for this training will be the famous J. Sam Harris, Certified Deaf Interpreter Extraordinaire!  The following topics will be covered during the training:

  1. Introduction to Interpreting (8 hours)
  2. RID-NAD’s Code of Professional Conduct (8 hours)
  3. Process of Interpreting (8 hours)
  4. ASL Linguistics (8 hours)
  5. Interpreting Practicum (8 hours)

Total: 40 hours

PRE-REQUISITES:

  • Completed ASL IV or equivalent
  • ASLPI 2+ or SLPI Advanced
  • Highly motivated individual
  • Comfortable with technology
